Goal-Line Stand Saves Seahawks in Win Over Rams

he Seahawks (7-1), riding the best start in franchise history, were forced to punt with a little more than 5 minutes left in the game, but they managed to pin St. Louis at its own 3-yard line.
Backup quarterback Kellen Clemens marched the Rams (3-5) to the Seattle 1, but Daryl Richardson was stuffed on the third down and Clemens threw an incomplete pass on the fourth down as time expired.
The Seahawks won despite gaining 135 yards of total offense, 80 of it on Wilson’s second touchdown pass to Tate. Two plays later, Wilson went deep down the sideline to Tate, who made an acrobatic leaping catch over Janoris Jenkins. Tate regained his balance and ran to the end zone, earning an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Wilson was sacked a career-high seven times.
Clemens made his first start in two years in place of the injured quarterback Sam Bradford.
PANTHER SAYS HE’S A TARGET Carolina Panthers free safety Mike Mitchell said he was being “targeted” by N.F.L. Commissioner Roger Goodell after receiving his fifth fine of the season. Mitchell was fined $7,875 last week by the league for taunting after he shoved St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford out of bounds during a game on Oct. 20. Mitchell was not penalized for taunting in the game.
“I’m being targeted because I play football physical, but I’m not out here cheap-shotting guys and doing dirty plays like I’ve seen people from Detroit do,” Mitchell said.
Brian McCarthy, the spokesman for the league, said Goodell did not make the decisions regarding on-field infractions.
REDSKINS SAFETY STRIKES BACK Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather said that “people who beat their girlfriends should be kicked out of the league” — a swipe at Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall.
Meriweather made the comment after a one-game suspension for helmet-first hits. One of the hits was made against Marshall. Marshall said players like Meriweather perhaps need to be “taken out of the game completely.”
Meriweather said, “You tell me who you’d rather have — somebody who plays aggressive on the field, or somebody who beat up their girlfriend?”
Marshall has a history of multiple arrests after confrontations with a girlfriend when he was playing for the Denver Broncos.
AROUND THE LEAGUE Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams is out for the season with a hamstring injury. ... Cleveland Browns punt returner Travis Benjamin tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Kansas City, and he will miss the rest of the season.

List Of Sites To Submit Indian News And Stories Online

It is really amazing to hear that in India the internet usage has grown more than 11 times over the last seven years. This internet boom is being driven not by metros, but by smaller and non-metro towns, where the number of users has risen by a whopping 69 times and 33 times respectively since 2000. More and more Indian sites are coming every day with new and hot news and information. To make this news available to the targeted audience, these sites must be well surfed and easily viewable by the Indian visitors.
With the growing popularity of wordpress and blogspot blogs, news blogs with variety of topics from bollywood, sports to politics have been seen everyday. Such type of blogs requires a new approach for site promotion as these news survive for just a day or maximum a week. The easiest and quickest way to drive traffic to your news is to submit your news url to some popular news bookmarking sites that are especially made to target Indian surfers. In this article, I have tried to mention all the popular Indian news submitting sites.
Here goes my list...
1. Bookmarks.nazariya.com - It is a site where you can submit news and stories related to India and its subcontinent. Its users are growing continuously and have succeeded to provide quality news and hot stories. It covers a huge categories list from lifestyle to computer and technology.
2. Indianpad - In my view this is the best digg clone site specific to India. I myself is an active user of this website. It has a very clean interface and best part no intrusive ads. Here a user can also earn by showing ads on the stories submitted by him/her.
3. GyanIn - Another site with similar concept of digg. It still looks at initial stages. But it is worth to check out. Site loads quicker and has clean interface that may tempt you to digg here. Here I find some interesting stories there, you may also find some.
4. Rambhai - Although having a strange name, it is also growing popular and is worth to submit your stories and news here. It has covered all the common categories and glossy interface. So submit and vote your favorite stories here.
5. Putvote - Having a nice name and nice effort put in there. I think this site can improve its design and can put some glossy banners and heading for attraction.

Peyton Manning, Denver lose in his return to Indianapolis

Peyton Manning failed Sunday night in his first game against his former team.
All the 37-year-old ex-Indianapolis Colts quarterback can do now is hope for a second chance.
On a night when second-year quarterback Andrew Luck, Manning's successor in Indianapolis, threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, the Denver Broncos committed four turnovers and lost for the first time this season, 39-33.
"This is a game we need to learn from," Manning said. "We, I guess, had four turnovers and still somehow had a chance to win that game. I would have liked to have seen it go to a two-point game down there toward the end and see what would have happened, but it never quite got to that point. We certainly have to improve from this game, because we weren't as sharp, execution-wise, as we'd like to be."
"It's not real fun watching him," Luck said of Manning. "But he is something to watch."
"Manning did Sunday night what he has done all season, doing it ugly without great arm strength or even great spirals, but putting the ball in spots where only teammates could catch it and run with it," writes CBSSports.com national columnist Gregg Doyel. "He completed 29 of 49 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns.
"But he didn't win this game, in part because of a harassing Colts defense that did to him what it has done to quarterbacks for years, and in part because of the guy who replaced Manning (Luck)."
The game certainly showed how vulnerable the Broncos (6-1) are at the moment.
Already playing without their starting left tackle and center, they juggled the offensive line again. This time, Manning was hit 10 times, sacked four times, lost a fumble and threw an interception - the last two when his arm was hit before he could get rid of the ball cleanly.
Running back Ronnie Hillman was stripped of the ball inside the Colts' 5-yard line late in the game on a series when the Broncos were down two scores.
Cornerback Champ Bailey, who had just returned to the lineup last week after missing the first five games with a left foot injury, departed in the first half after hurting the same foot. Coach John Fox didn't provide an update on the severity of the injury after the game.
Without Bailey, Luck managed to extend the lead and kept the pressure on Manning all game.
And dynamic kick returner Trindon Holliday fumbled twice, losing one that led to an Indianapolis (5-2) touchdown.
Heading into the game, Manning and Denver looked virtually unbeatable. The Broncos were scoring points by the dozens in the midst of a 17-game regular-season winning streak and showed no signs of even hitting a speed bump.
But nothing went right and now the Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL's lone unbeaten team.
"That's a big play any time you give them a safety or give them the ball again," Manning said, referring to Robert Mathis' strip sack in the second quarter. "Robert's a great player, no doubt, but that was one of a number of plays that we gave them points and it was ultimately too much to overcome."
While Manning finished with solid numbers, 29 of 49 for 386 yards with three TD passes, he certainly wasn't himself. Passes fluttered, passes sailed, passes were broken up.
Luck was 21 of 38 for 228 yards with three scores and no turnovers in ending Denver's pursuit of perfection. Indianapolis extended its lead in the AFC South and still hasn't lost consecutive games since Luck arrived in the NFL last year.
Admittedly, this was no typical night for Manning.
The weekend's marquee matchup was the NFL's most anticipated homecoming since Brett Favre went back to Green Bay - with the dreaded Minnesota Vikings - in 2009.
Indy's former franchise quarterback dealt with questions all week about owner Jim Irsay's most recent comments expressing disappointment with winning just one Super Bowl title during the Manning years, then arrived to find out the roof and window at Lucas Oil Stadium would be open on a chilly night inside the house he helped build.
And when he first ran onto the field, some sections in the lower bowl looked like a checkerboard of Colts blue and Broncos orange. They roared for No. 18 throughout a 90-second video tribute featuring some of his most memorable moments with the Colts, including the record-breaking pass to Marvin Harrison for most TDs by a quarterback-receiver duo, the AFC championship comeback against New England and, of course, the evening when he finally hoisted the Lombardi Trophy after winning the Super Bowl in rainy Miami.
Manning responded to the standing ovation by stopping his warm-up throws, taking off his helmet, waving to the fans and mouthing the words "Thank you."
The large video screen then cut to a fan holding a sign that that read "Thanks Peyton But Tonight I'm A Colts Fan."
Afterward, he acknowledged it was an emotional game.
But the Broncos were dealing with far bigger issues on the field.
After Holliday fumbled, Luck hooked up with Darrius Heyward-Bey on the next play to give Indy a 10-7 lead.
After the free kick following the safety Luck found Stanley Havili for a 20-yard TD pass to make it 19-14. Indy never trailed again.
"That's my job, that's how I help my team," Mathis said. "It felt good."
The Colts extended the lead to 26-14 at halftime and 33-14 in the third quarter when Luck scrambled for a 10-yard TD during a drive on which four flags came out on Denver defenders.
Then Manning rallied the Broncos, throwing a 31-yard TD pass to Demaryius Thomas early in the fourth and handing off to Knowshon Moreno for a 1-yard TD run to make it 36-30 with 8:44 left in the game.
Denver forced a punt, giving Manning another chance as the stadium noise subsided. But on the first play, Erik Walden hit Manning's arm and Pat Angerer picked it off to set up Adam Vinatieri's 42-yard field goal.

Battlestar Galactica and Monk writer Michael Angeli

Battlestar Galactica and Monk writer Michael Angeli is working with God of War studio Sony Santa Monica on a brand-new game, the TV veteran said during a Comic-Con panel this week attended by Polygon.

Angeli said during the panel that this new project is not a God of War title, but would not give other details about the game because it has not yet been announced.

The writer told Polygon that he has been working on the game for 2.5 years so far and that after God of War: Ascension development wrapped, about 150 staffers moved to the new game.

Previous job listings at Sony Santa Monica suggest the company is working on a shooter with open-world and vehicle combat elements.

New course record set during the 36th annual Chicago Marathon

While security was on the minds of many during their 26.2 mile journey through the city's streets, participants didn't let it stop them as the winning runner set a new course record in what has become a historic Chicago Marathon.

Dennis Kimetto of Kenya won the male division with an unofficial time of 2:03:45, breaking the previous record set last year of 2:04:38.

Rita Jeptoo of Kenya won the female division with an unofficial time of 2:19:59, slower than the 2002 course record of 2:17:18.

The winners of the wheelchair division finished the race in less than 2 hours. As a group of wheelchairs crossed the finish line a number of volunteers clapped and cheered.

Ernst Van Dyk of South Africa won the male wheelchair division with a time of 1:30:37 and the winner of the female wheelchair division, Tatyana McFadden of Champaign won with a time of 1:42:37.

At 11 a.m., fatigue and pain were on every face as they turned north onto Michigan Avenue from 35th Street in Bronzeville at the 23-mile marker.

One runner lie on the curb, struggling to get up. After some water he got to his feet and told Bob Arendt of Chicago that he'd finish the marathon walking.

Arendt, 52, was there cheering on his daughter-in-law.

"His legs cramped up and he kind of went down," Arendt said of the marathoner he helped. "We got him some water and encouraged him on."

Shortly before 11 a.m., Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said Superior Ambulance Service has been handling any medical calls arising from the race. Chicago Fire Department personnel has been merely assisting them, so far.

Langford couldn't provide the number of calls Superior has responded to, but he said the Fire Department hasn't transported any runners to hospitals.

As the runners raced along State Street, police officers in bright yellow vests kept watch at every intersection, lending a sense of reassurance to many in the crowd for the 36th annual race.

"You always think about safety because you never expect (violence), but I haven't felt uncomfortable at all," said Belinda Musgrave, who had come from Houston, Texas to cheer on her friend, Rhonda Kersgieter. "They seem to have everything under control."

Among the people at the end were a number of uniformed Chicago police officers who were standing guard behind the fence along side the finish line area.

A few of the uniformed officers were wearing bulletproof vests that read, "Department of Homeland Security POLICE" and walked through the area. They were accompanied by a homeland security K9 officer who was walking a bomb-sniffing dog.

The dog, appearing to be shepherd, wore a patch on its shoulder that read, "DO NOT PET."

Chicago Police officers seemed to be posted at nearly every intersection downtown as the city heightened security measures.

It was the bombing during the Boston Marathon earlier this year that inspired Marcy Wrzesinski to stand outside her apartment building on Sunday to cheer on the runners as they passed mile four in the Old Town neighborhood.

"The Boston Marathon I think freaked people out," Wrzesinski said.

A 10-year resident of Chicago, Sunday was the first time Wrzesinski made it out to watch the race.

"I normally watch from my bedroom window," she said. "I didn't want to shy away from it this year. I wanted to come out and give my support. Go America."

Wrzesinski and her husband Chet said they had not noticed extra security measures this year, except that newspaper boxes in their neighborhood had disappeared.

Spectators who had gathered on Wells St. in Old Town said they were surprised that there were so few uniformed police offices around.

"It's good that you don't see the presence because that makes people uncomfortable," said Kelly Kane, 43, who was cheering runners on as they approached mile 11.

Some runners high-fived and shook hands with the few officers who were visible along the route, said Bill Deitrick, a Gold Coast resident.

"I told the officer, I said, 'This is the best of humanity,'" Deitrick said.

Kane, who has volunteered in the past at the finish line, said people would typically pack into that area as the race drew to a close. That's not allowed this year because race organizers made the finish line accessible only to ticket holders.

"It's a shame that they can't do that, but it totally makes sense," Kane said. "I can understand why (officials) don't want people down there."

Deitrick, who along with his wife Emily was watching the marathon for the first time, said it had never occurred to him to worry about safety.

"It's America, it's an open society," he said.

The couple came out on Sunday because they heard helicopters from their Gold Coast home and figured it was a nice day to take in the race.

"Chicago gave 'em a heck of a day for this," Deitrick said. "It's a perfect day."

A number of runners said the Boston bombings would not deter them from focusing on today's race. They were confident that the level of security here could prevent any terrorist attack.

Adrian Peterson's son, 2, dies; man charged with abuse

A 2-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson died on Friday in a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital, the victim of alleged abuse by a man who was dating the boy's mother, police confirmed.
Peterson's father, Nelson Peterson, confirmed Friday afternoon that the child is Adrian Peterson's. Peterson met with the media Friday, hours before the boy passed away, and said at the time he still planned to play in Sunday's game against Carolina, but declined to get into details about the case.
Peterson posted a statement on his Twitter account after news of the child's death."Thank you to my family, my fans and fans of other teams for their support. The NFL is a fraternity of brothers and I am thankful for the tweets, phone calls and text messages from my fellow players. God Bless everyone and thank u so much," Peterson wrote in three tweets.Police arrested Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, who was initially charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault on an infant. Sioux Falls police said additional charges are being considered.Patterson has a prior domestic abuse record with a different woman and child, having pleaded guilty to simple assault in an incident last year involving an adult female and juvenile male.Sioux Falls police said Patterson recently started a relationship with the mother of the 2-year old victim. Patterson appeared in court Friday morning in Canton, S.D. His bond had been set at $750,000 in cash before the boy's death. The incident occurred in Patterson's apartment, where the boy had recently moved with his mother. Patterson called 911 on Wednesday evening to report a choking at the Platinum Valley apartment, but Lt. Blaine Larsen of the Sioux Falls Police Department said it became clear at the hospital that the boy's injuries were not accidental.Sioux Falls police said the incident was initially reported as a medical emergency."As officers and first responders got there, they found child was unresponsive and he was taken to the hospital," police spokesman Sam Clemens told USA TODAY Sports. "So they ended up calling police about that or letting them know. We had detectives talk to quite a few people to try to figure out what happened. What they ended up finding was that when the injuries happened there was one person with that child, and that person was Joseph Patterson."The injuries they found were head injuries," Clemens said. "It was obvious to medical staff that abuse had taken place and that those injuries weren't accidental."Clemens said police believe the child's mother was "gone for a short time, and that's when we believe the injury occurred.Suspect's pastIn the aftermath of Patterson's latest arrest, the Lincoln County prosecutor's office on Friday filed motions to order Patterson to serve two year-long sentences that had been suspended in two prior domestic cases - one for the simple assault case and another for violating an order to stay away from the victim in that case. Those motions will be heard later this month.Court records show that Patterson has a son with another Sioux Falls woman, and also show that the mother had asked for protection orders twice, claiming he'd choked and punched her, threatened her with a knife and held her in the bedroom against her will. The mother chose not to pursue permanent protection orders, which ultimately were dropped voluntarily in 2010 and 2011.In 2012, Patterson was charged with simple assault against the mother, however, and was ordered to undergo family violence training and to stay away from her until completing it.Patterson's child lives with his mother, who declined to comment Friday morning when reached by The Argus Leader.Another woman applied for a protection order against Patterson in 2004 in Jackson County, where he attended high school Vikings coach Leslie Frazier, speaking before news of the child's death, said Friday that it would be up to Peterson whether he plays this week."We'll see how things go with him," Frazier said. "We expect him to play, but this is a very personal situation that he's dealing with."Vikings running back Toby Gerhart said many players had reached out to Peterson.
"We consider each other family and brothers. It's clichéd and everybody says, 'We've got each other's back' when we go on a football field, but when something like this happens, it's truly a testament of being a teammate and how tight this family is," Gerhart said.
"It's a tough situation. We all reached out to him yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."
Peterson, meanwhile, said football helps get him through tough times.
"I plan on playing Sunday," he said. "I will be playing Sunday, correct that. I'll be ready to roll, focused. I'm worried about getting a W on Sunday, being 1-0... You know, football is something I will always fall back on. It gets me through tough times. Just being around the guys in here, that's what I need in my life, guys supporting me and just being able to go out and play this game I love. Things that I go through, I've said a thousand times, it helps me play this game to a different level. I'm able to kind of release a lot of my stress through this sport, so that's what I plan on doing."

American Horror Story

Over American Horror Story’s two invigorating, gruesome seasons, creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have indicated that there is no subject too distasteful for them to tackle. In last year’s installment of the anthology series, American Horror Story: Asylum, the pair took on insanity, nuns, aliens, possession, medical experimentation, religious hypocrisy, homosexual aversion therapy, serial killers, the devil, and abortion. For good measure, they threw in the Holocaust in a bravura two-episode stand featuring an inmate who believed she was Anne Frank. But even this past boldness does not quite prepare one for the opening segment of the new season, titled American Horror Story: Coven. Forget the serpents in the show’s promotional materials; Coven begins with America’s preeminent horror story: slavery.
