Jennifer Lawrence's Fall Can't Keep Her From Best Actress Oscar

It's bound to be the most talked-about trip of the year. Jennifer Lawrence, now without a doubt Hollywood's new favorite leading lady, made her way to the podium to claim her well-deserved Oscar for "Silver Linings Playbook," and not even gravity could keep her away.
Her stumble earned her an uproarious round of supportive applause and a standing ovation. "You all standing up makes me feel bad that I fell, and that's really embarrassing, but thank you," the witty Lawrence joked upon taking the stage.
Lawrence used all her remaining strength to give a charmingly breathless acceptance speech. Her wide-eyed surprise made perfect sense coming from the first-time winner and relative newcomer. Of her fellow nominees, Lawrence said, "It's been so amazing getting to know you, you've been so nice, and you've made this experience unforgettable."
Earlier in the evening, Lawrence admitted to MTV News during our red-carpet coverage that public speaking is not her favorite activity. "Every time they call my name, there's one moment where I'm like, 'I won! Oh my God, I have to go up there!' " she said.
Most critics gave the Best Actress edge to Lawrence, an actress who's no stranger to fending off competition thanks to her star-making turn in "The Hunger Games." But it was the raw role of Tiffany Maxwell in "Silver Linings Playbook" that has given Lawrence one crowded trophy case. Lawrence now has an Oscar to squeeze in next to the SAG and Golden Globe awards she won for "Silver Linings." Lawrence was previously nominated for Best Actress for 2010's "Winter's Bone."
Now with an Academy Award under her arm and two mega-franchises in their prime ("The Hunger Games" and "X-Men"), the 22-year-old Lawrence represents a new generation of superstar actresses who are able to both earn the big money and big awards.
